What is the difference between gps4cam and gps4cam pro

Youness B May 21, 2014 2 Comments 13865

gps4cam is available on both iOS and Android. gps4cam pro has much more features and capabilities compared with gps4cam, and it is available, for the moment, only on iOS. The pro version will come later on Android. Main differences between gps4cam and gps4cam pro are:

  1. The cloud: gps4cam pro introduced a new cloud capability. By creating your gps4cam cloud account, you can store all your trips’ data in a secured cloud instead of having the data on your smartphone. The benefit of this feature is that you can retrieve your trips’ database on any iOS device. This facilitate the migration of data in case you change your phone (e.g. you upgrade from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5). It is also very convenient if  you lose your iPhone because your data is not lost and you can retrieve it on your new device.
  2. The number of QRCodes you need to photograph: Depending on how long your trip was, gps4cam will generate 1 or several QRCodes per trip (The information that can be stored in a QRCode is limited). gps4cam pro introduced a new feature giving the users the ability to generate a single QRCode no matter how long their trips were. To take advantage of this feature you need to whether 1/Link gps4cam pro with your Dropbox account or 2/use your gps4cam cloud account. With Dropbox and gps4cam cloud, the data is stored on the cloud and the QRCode only points to this data. Make sure to generate your QRCode once you have internet on your iPhone, otherwise the app could generate more than 1 QRCode. Also make sure to geotag your photos with gps4cam desktop when you have internet on your computer because the data has to be retrieved from the cloud.
  3. Pebble integration: gps4cam pro offers a great integration with pebble smartwatch. You can learn more about this new feature here.
  4. A better geotagging process for LightRoom users: with gps4cam pro, LightRoom users who geotag their photos using GPX files and LightRoom can directly send the GPX files to Dropbox. The files can be retrieved directly on Dropbox (on their computer) instead of emailing the GPX files and retrieving them manually.
  5. Altitude: With gps4cam pro, you can capture the altitude (in addition to the latitude and longitude), and add this to your photos’ metadata when geotagging your photos. Skydivers, hikers & climbers have asked for this feature.
  6. A new capture mode: gps4cam pro has a new capture mode which let the users capture a GPS locations every X meters/feet/miles.
  7. Specify your own interval for both precise and standard modes: With gps4cam pro, you can specify your own values to tell gps4cam pro to capture a GPS location every X feet/meters (in precise mode) or Y seconds/minutes (in standard mode). This is convenient because when a photographer is walking, he would prefer capturing a GPS location every 2 to 5 minutes for example, but when the photographer is shooting from a car, it is probably better to setup the interval to be 10 to 60 seconds between each GPS location.
  8. The price: gps4cam is available for $2.99 while gps4cam pro costs $3.99.

GPS4Cam Pro sounds great. Can existing users of GPS4Cam upgrade to the Pro version by paying the price difference of $1?

I just purchased your app on Google Play store. After visiting your website I saw that you had a pro version. What do I have to do to get version instead?
    I have an Adroid phone.

I am a member of a Photo Club in Boucherville, Québec, Canada. I will inform the members of the club today and I’m sure many of them will be interested by this application. Thank you for creating such a fantastic application.
